  35. To manage and market NeXT's application development environment - NEXTSTEP
  36. Developer. The Product Manager will be responsible for both product
  37. management as well as product marketing for the product.
  38.  
  39. Responsibilities
  40.  
  41.          Product management consists of defining the product feature set
  42.          jointly with engineering, through input from the sales force and
  43.          direct customer contacts.  The product manager is responsible for
  44.          the overall strategy of the product line, to insure that it
  45.          remains ahead of the competition in its market.  In addition, the
  46.          product manager has the responsibility for the proper marketing of
  47.          the product line to the potential customer markets.

  49.          Be well-versed in the area of object-oriented development, and be
  50.          able to communicate the benefits to customers, press, and analysts
  51.  
  52.          Gather, distill, and prioritize customer need information from the
  53.          NeXT sales force, channels of distribution, and customers for use
  54.          during product planning and development cycle
  55.  
  56.          Deliver NeXT products to market, including pricing, packaging, and
  57.          promotion.
  58.  
  59.          Be knowledgeable of competing products, and disseminate the
  60.          information to the sales force as needed
  61.  
  62.          Insure the product strategy is complementary to the overall
  63.          NEXTSTEP strategy in the market
  64.  
  65.          Work with key industry partners to create a whole-product solution
  66.          in the
  67.          area of application development
  68.  
  69.          Act as spokesperson for NeXT's application development
  70.          environment, competitive advantages, product positioning, etc.
  71.  
  72.          Develop sales tools (eg. selling guides, slide shows, demos) that
  73.          communicate NeXT's development advantage.
  74.

  76. Qualifications
  77.  
  78.          B.S. in Computer Science or related area
  79.  
  80.          3 - 5 years development experience in a GUI environment
  81.  
  82.          Experience with Object-Oriented development paradigms and
  83.          programming environments
  84.  
  85.          Experience in face-to-face customer interaction, speaking with
  86.          industry press and analysts, and making public presentations
  87.  
  88.          Knowledge of industry standards such as OMG's CORBA specification,
  89.          OSF's DCE technology
  90.  
  91.          Familiarity with UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and various development
  92.          environments available for those operating systems
  93.  
  94.          Familiarity with client-server development tools
  95.  
  96.          Basic understanding of network computing, and network standards
  97.  
  98.          2 years experience in project management, marketing and/or sales
  99.          of software development tools and technology
